Holistic, Organic, or Homemade Dog and Cat Food DIY

                                                           Newfoundland Mix
Here is my poor boy without a haircut! Oh MY how miserable he must of been.

My Boy named Cody

This is in memory of my 11.5 year old Newfoundland who had so much personality.  Recently, I lost my boy to cancer.   I tried so hard to save him but it wasn't to be.
While trying to find something he could eat, and it would stay down.  I explored so many holistic, organic, and homemade dog foods.
The Veterinarian did not recommend the cheap dog foods at the supermarket nor would he say which ones I should choose.
I fed him Science diet Prescription dog food from the Veterinarians office ( by prescription only) but, at 30 bucks for twelve cans.  My boy would need four cans a day for his size dog if he could eat it.

It wasn't financially something, most people could afford. ( Including myself. )  So, that is why I have listed some of the dog and cat foods below.
At one point I went to Tractor Supply to see all the different kinds of dog foods.  As I read their ingredients, the one I liked is called  4 Health.  It is actually made by Tractor Supply.  It seem to be closest to some of  the great ingredients they had in the can of prescription dog food that I was paying so much for at a more economical price.
My big old boy loved the chicken flavor with rice and I loved it had all those vitamins and minerals in it that they require for good health.  Plus the first ingredients started with chicken and chicken broth...You Gotta love that.
I have copied some the dog foods that I found in different places.
Please check with your Veterinarian  to see if he/she approves of any of these before proceeding.
I found out a lot about those commercial brand dog foods.   So here are some homemade ones that are from book of (Ann N. Martin,  Protect your Pet. ) I  hope this helps you and your pet.  Your dog or cat doesn't have to be sick to be changed to this type of diet.

 Dog Toothpaste

There are dog toothpastes that are sold in pet stores. However, you can also make homemade dog toothpaste from simple ingredients. Check with your Veterinarian.

The ingredients needed are bullion cubes, baking soda, cinnamon, and coconut oil. Use the toothpaste with a regular toothbrush on your dog.

It may take your dog some time to get used to having its teeth brushed.

  2. I'm so sorry about Cody He sure died way before his time. Sounds like you took great care of him. I don't know why God made our pets have such a short life, because we like them like kids. Some of that food sounds like I would love it lol!

  3. Your post is very helpful. I think it's really great if one would feed their pets with homemade food, rather than processed pet food in order to avoid more preservatives getting into their systems. Thank you for sharing.
